On the front of the wrapper of Soyananda it reads “vegan alternative for Greek organic cheese”, with a picture of a salad with white little blocks. So we bought it considering it as a feta-type for this review.
Inside the wrapper is a plastic cup that holds the vegan cheese, which from the outside looks pretty moist. We put it on a plate for the pictures instead of on our standard wooden cutting board, as this vegan cheese itself is too soft and moist for the board. On the plate, we cut it in cubes in line with the provided instructions in the packaging.
Immediately once outside the cup, it is clear from appearance this vegan cheese is based on tofu. It is a quite soft, almost silken tofu. When tasting we unconsciously were expecting a tofu taste, but then it actually pleasantly surprises with a clear lactic acid taste. At the same time though, in our view it tastes much more like yoghurt than feta cheese.
Conclusion
Overall, the texture is much softer than a feta cheese and the taste much more like yoghurt than feta in our view, so we would not go for this product in case we would be looking for a feta alternative in a salad.
