Wow, we’re very impressed by Jeanne made by Jay & Joy, our first 5 star review. The coconut milk with cashews and almonds give this cheese a base that is a world away from the coconut oil and modified potato starch we come across often in other vegan cheeses. This is a different ball park. We love the silky smoothness and kind of light fluffiness of this cheese, while also the look and mouthfeel are spot on as a vegan blue cheese. The taste matches the other dimensions as it is primarily mushroomy, a bit tangy with some earthy onion and leek notes.
Any drawbacks? Well, one could mention the price tag of € 6.29 we paid for 90 grams of cheese. So this may not be for an everyday slice of bread, but more suitable for a great vegan cheese platter, showing off the best in the vegan cheese world.
To us, Jay & Joy are setting a high benchmark with Jeanne. We hope many other producers of vegan cheese will try to reach and exceed.
