Nutty Artisan Foods is a small vegan cheese maker established in 2018 by a mother & daughter team in La Linea de la Concepcion, Cádiz, Spain. Nutty aims to create tasty plant-based alternatives to dairy cheese with few ingredients.1
For this G.O.A.T vegan cheese, Nutty playfully suggests you can decide for yourself if that should be the Greenest Of All Time or the Greatest Of All Time.2 With its name and its shape as a goat cheese roll, we decided this should be classified as a goat cheese alternative.
The ingredients for G.O.A.T are limited indeed, nothing but water, nuts, salt and ferments. The taste is mild, both pleasantly sour and savoury, with mushroomy, nutty and earthy vegetable notes. While it is pleasant taste, it does not have the characteristic tart goat cheese taste, which is imparted by the fatty acids in goat milk.3
Conclusion
For looks, ingredients and taste, we think this vegan goat cheese roll is quite similar to Jil by Jay & Joy. What are the differences? Looking at the rind, it looks to us like G.O.A.T ripens a bit longer than Jil. At the same time, the texture of Jil is a bit drier and it has a less strong mushroomy taste. All in all, we think they are both good, similar, options for a cheese platter, where G.O.A.T has a sharper mushroomy taste and Jil has a milder nutty taste.
