The ‘Intense gourmet’ slices are siblings of the ‘Mild’ slices by Simply V that we reviewed at the same time. Compared to Mild, we could not identify why these would be more intense nor more gourmet, and actually slightly preferred the Mild slices for the taste.

These Mild slices from German vegan cheesemaker Simply V have a pleasant savoury taste. We found it hard to classify the taste though. More for lack of a better alternative we marked it as Gouda-style.

Probably one of the most widely available vegan cheese slices in the world. These original slices are based on coconut oil and potato starch. While it looks like cheese slices, we think the taste and texture when cold is not great. It improves substantially when melted on a grilled cheese sandwich.

Sibling of the Original slices by Vegan Deli. We could only distinguish somewhat different taste and smell. Also here, while it looks like cheese slices, we thought the taste and texture are not very cheesy, noting it gets better when melted.

Original slices from Vegan Deli are Swiss cheese-style, organic and soy-free. While the looks are clearly recognisable as cheese slices, we did not conclude the same about the taste and mouthfeel. Melted we thought better than cold.

Fermè is a cashew-based fermentino. This Black Pepper type conveys a lively taste of freshly milled black pepper. We think a nice addition to a cheese platter.

MozzaVella is advertised as the “the first vegan mozzarella ball in brine on the market”. The light, acidic taste reminded us more of yoghurt than mozzarella.

Mozzarella-alternative that comes packaged in the shape of a sausage. Not only looks are different to a typical mozzarella, also the taste didn’t remind us of mozzarella.

It is a beautiful package: the bright red box, the cup with a mozzarella-shaped ball in brine. While the looks are great, the taste and mouthfeel however did not meet the created expectation for us.

Soyananda vegan alternative for greek organic cheese is made primarily from soft tofu with lactic ferments. In our view, the outcome is softer than we would expect for a feta and the taste more like yoghurt than feta.
